As the season opens for college football, the first game of the season pitts #9 South Carolina versus conference foe Vandy. SC coming off of a 11-2 season last year looks to improve upon that and win their first conference championship in school history. The gamecocks will get back heisman hopeful Marcus Lattimore from a season ending injury last year.
Vandy’s second year defensive coordinator Bob Shoop looks to shut Lattimore down with the 18th ranked defense from last year. Although Shoop points out “that was only good enough for 6th in the sec or middle of the pack”. Chase Gram moves from outside linebacker to inside lb for the Vandy defense and will be a main instrument to shutting down the gamecock rushing attack.
If South Carolina can manage to come out on top against Vandy tonight, they will get two non conference games against East Carolina and UAB before coming home to face the Mizz in their first matchup since Mizzu joined the sec this year. This will lead up to the hardest part of the gamecocks schedule where they must face #6 Georgia, #3 LSU and # 23 Florida before finishing their conference schedule against #10 Arkansas. If the gamecocks look to maintain their top 10 ranking, they will have to win 3 of those 4 games which is no easy task.
